This post is written for Friday Fictioneers.
During thirty years of living together they had a few disagreements. There were the bleary eyes; the slurred words, the repeating of sentences. The sound of “I don’t love you anymore” echoing in his ears. All the signs were there.
He had walked out on Tom before. Those were short periods of times when he just needed to get away. He especially liked the solitude the of nearby beach.
When he left he always told Tom he would return, as he did this morning.
Slowly walking into the water he realized this would be a promise he would break.
You’ve captured his hopelessness. I can feel it.

Well written, Danny. There are only so many times you can go back to a relationship that isn’t working

What a sad, well-narrated story! It’s strange that the sight of the sea has caused so many of us to have people walk into them, never to return (in our stories, that is)!

You are correct. Scenes like that illicit that type of response from us. Where’s my shrink?

I hope that Tom, for once, doesn’t just wait, but run after him. Maybe he’ll change his mind. So sad.

Sadly this was a moment of true despair, which is passed on to everyone who deals with the aftermath.

Oh no…oh nooo, if that ending is what I think it is, then it is a very sad ending indeed.
