This post is written for Friday Fictioneers.

They were veterans of many a canoe trips in Northern Michigan. Numerous trips on the Au Sable river in their minds made them professionals even though the river only drops 650 feet (200 m) from its source at the junction of Kolka and Bradford Creeks to its end approximately 138 miles east.
They described this river to their guide in Argentina and asked him to pick a river to test their skills. “Iguazu River”, their guide informed them sounded similar.
As their canoe departed the landing the guide shouted, “Be careful with that first waterfall, it’s a killer.”
Nature attracts me so much. Such a paradise!

Danny, it’s so cool to see you give a nod to Michigan waterfalls. I got a kick out of that last line. Thank you for the laugh.

Your welcome. Took a few trips on that river as a teenager.

Stupidity and pride sometimes carry the death penalty. Those guys should have checked the details before starting.

Well I suppose any warning, even if it’s a late one, is better than nothing.

Late but deadly.

It’s a killer for sure. I hope they check it out in person before they commit to that ride.

Too late I’m afraid.

White water rafting is exhilarating, but there are limits what can be done with a canoe. Good luck to them. A story that asks, is the risk worth the challenge?

I think they reached their limits.

I’m guessing no one returns to give this guide a bad Yelp review.

If they did it would not be a good one.

Never trust and Argentinian guide who is not going with you. Well done, Danny.

Bit of a difference whether that drop is over 138 miles or all at once!

He might have mentioned the waterfall before they took off, right? I loved this.

As soon as the guide said waterfall would be a sign to get out of the canoe.
