Police here have recovered 98 storm drain grates that had been swiped from neighborhoods around the Raleigh area. These are heavy iron covers which measure 2 feet by 3 feet and weigh more than 100 pounds each. The grates are worth $15 to $20 each when scrapped.
Three questions come to mind:
- Who in the world would steal storm drain grates?
- Who is dumb enough to buy them?
I mean are they going to stand on street corners with long trench coats and then show the grates to prospective buyers? “Psst…hey buddy, want to buy a slightly used storm drain grate. Like new condition!”
I guess it gives new meaning to the phrase “he just dropped out of sight”.
Out here in SoCal – where we a overladen with “undocumented aliens” – these would be good targets to haul away to scrap metal dealers. They just swing the super magnet over the bed of their pickup truck and cash drops into their wallets. 🙂
Now that’s funny. Thanks for the comment!
