In The Scorpio Races, author Maggie Stiefvater writes, “It is the first day of November and so, today, someone will die.” Give us the next thirty-three words of this story, as you imagine it. Take it wherever you like, but make it original and make it 33 words exactly.

“It is the first day of November and so, today, someone will die.”
“Our government has dictated this incomprehensible policy. The overpopulation problem is their number one concern for the future of our country. We were allowed two children. Our third child, David, was a mistake.”
I loved the book. But the thought is scary, but in many ways necessary too. 😦

I can re;late to this very well-being from India (second highest populated country in the world) and having been a student of sociology:-)It is a harsh reality and unless one has been there one cannot understand how even one extra mouth effects everything.Enjoyed your unusual take:-)

Read Dan Brown’s book “Inferno”. The solution was to make 1/3 of the population sterile.

I dislike Dan Brown’s style and I do not think that kind of solution is feasible in the real world 😦

Wow…there’s a lot of weight to that ‘mistake’. It would be horrible to have to sacrifice a child because of quotas.

Thanks for the comment. You should read Dan Brown’s “Inferno” where 1/3 of the worlds population would be rendered sterile to solve this problem.

You’ve given a lot of weight to the word mistake. This begs for more than 33, and it’s a delightful tease.
