It’s time for Friday Fictioneers pesented by Rochelle:

The seagulls Gertude and Heathcliff, and their good pelican friend Peter, are relaxing on what used to be a speed bump in the Walmart shopping center. This swath of ocean before them, devoid of life save for some hearty bacteria, has become a large dead zone. Looking across this black bay they can see groups travelling by boat to asses the catastrophe.
“What does this mean for us?” ask Gertude.
“The impact to us will be the thing most visible to the public. But it is not our deaths that they should be concerned about”, replied Heathcliff.

Humor and seriousness make a good read. I kind of remember Red Skelton, my parents watched him – don’t get the connection, please enlighten me! Thanks.

Ouch! Gertrude and Heathcliff were two talking seagulls that Mr. Skelton always used to tell some of his jokes.

Thanks! We watched Red once a week when I was 8 or 9 then our T.V. broke and we didn’t have one for about five years. Don’t think it did me any harm,

Nice commentary on an all too trues state of affairs. Marine life is always the first sign if we are watching. Nice prompt.

A serious message with a bit of humor is more likely to be read and contemplated, I think. Good one, Danny.

Danny, Good story based on a serious matter with a little injection of humor. Well done. 🙂 I’m one of a vanishing breed who “does” remember Red Skelton and his flock flying over. Great comedy. XD

Wise words from your quill and the beak of a gull. Good stuff.

Indeed they are wise words. Perhaps we should listen.

Makes me wonder if Red Skelton would have known this ahead of time. Nice story.

I’m not sure how many people know about Red Skelton. Sadly probably a small portion.

It is a serious issue. Had to put a little humor with it.

For a minute I thought you were going to finish the title with “walked into a bar”!
Do I detect from the last paragraph that you’re talking about rising sea levels? If so it appears that Heathcliffe is wiser than most humans.

At least more perspective. Had a case of seriousness when I penned that, with a little humor or course.
