The seagulls Gertude and Heathcliff, and their good pelican friend Peter, are relaxing on what used to be a speed bump in the Walmart shopping center. This swath of ocean before them, devoid of life save for some hearty bacteria, has become a large dead zone. “What does this mean for us?” ask Gertude.
“The impact to us will be the thing most visible to the public. But it is not our deaths that they should be concerned about”, replied Heathcliff.
