These are really depressing numbers. USA is 9th out of 13th of industrial nations in literacy. A double whammy is the most jobs in the next few years require a high degree of technical skills.
It is a wonder that so many college graduates are living with their parents? Is it a wonder that we pay teachers such low wages and expect to recruit the best. Only the ones that feel they can make a difference enter the teaching field. They sure don’t expect to make money.
