The open window was a sign that the coast was clear for their affair to continue.

They had started their affair about a year ago. It was the classic “office romance”. The open window indicated her husband was at work and would not return for a few hours. He passed her house on his way home. No telephone calls were ever made.

The window was open tonight. He parked two blocks away. As he rang the bell his cell phone rang. That was strange. He opened his phone and heard her voice say, “I forgot to close the window so if you happen to drive by tonight I won’t be home. Girlfriends night out you know.”

The door opened and a very deep male voice said, “If you’re selling something I’m not interested.”

“Just thought I would tell you your upstairs widow is open.”
